This Post is about How to Apply Makeup Step by Step for Beginners in 2025.
Step 1: Prepping Your Skin

Before touching makeup, we must start with a clean and moisturized face. This is the secret to flawless application and long-lasting makeup.
Cleanser: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil.
Moisturizer: Hydrate your skin based on your skin type (oily, dry, or combo).
Toner: Use a BHA Toner to remove dead skin.
Tip: You can also apply a primer before your foundation. Many primers are available based on your needs: Matifying, Pore blurring, Hydrating, etc.
Step 2: Brows – Frame the Face
Your brows shape your entire face, so let’s give them some love!
- Use a brow pencil or powder to fill in sparse areas.
- Brush them up with a spoolie for a natural, fluffy look.
- Set them with a clear or tinted brow gel to keep them in place all day.
Tip: Dont go too crazy doing your brows; the more natural, the better.

Step 3: Eyeshadow & Eyeliner

Eyeshadow: Stick with neutral shades if you’re a beginner. Apply a light shade on your lid and a slightly darker shade on your crease, and blend everything; if you want a simple look, leave it as it is or add a pop of color with a shimmer in the center.
Eyeliner: A simple brown or black eyeliner along your lash line will make your eyes pop without looking too intense. You can use dark eyeshadow as a liner if you are a beginner. I am not very good at doing my wing, and I find it easier to use eyeshadow and an angle brush.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing eyeliner, you can leave your eye look without it; I don’t do eyeliner in most of my looks, and they still look beautiful!
Tip: Take your time blending your eyeshadow; this will give you a more polished result.
Step 4: Foundation & Concealer
Foundation: Choose a lightweight foundation that matches your skin tone and undertone (warm, cool, or neutral). Blend it evenly with a brush, sponge, or even your fingers, patting the product onto your skin. For a more natural look, start with a light to medium-coverage foundation.
Concealer: Apply concealer under your eyes to brighten the area and cover any blemishes or redness. Don’t overuse your concealer; otherwise, it can look patchy and accentuate your fine lines; start with a small amount until you get the desired results.
Tip: If you are using a primer, make sure your foundation complements the primer. For example, if the primer is silicone-based, ensure your foundation is the same; this will prevent separation.

Step 5: Setting Your Base

We need to set our base with powder to keep everything in place.
If you have dry skin, keep your powder to a minimum; this will emphasize your skin’s dryness and make it look flaky.
If you have oily skin, lightly dust a setting powder over your T-zone.
Tip: Powder can be tricky. Try to keep it natural. If you use too much, your makeup will look heavy.
Step 6: Adding Some Dimension (Bronzer, Blush & Highlighter)
Bronzer: Apply your bronzer in the areas where the sun naturally hits, such as the hollows of your cheeks, jawline, and hairline. Go light with your bronzer and add as you go; the last thing you want is a bronzer that looks patchy.
Blush: Smile and apply blush to the apples of your cheeks for a fresh, healthy glow. If you want a more lifting effect, you can bring your blush to the highest part of the cheek.
Highlighter: Tap some highlighter on your cheekbones, tip of your nose, and brow bone for a subtle glow.
Tip: These products come in powder, cream, and liquid options. Try the one you feel more comfortable with, and it will give you a more natural finish.

Step 7: Mascara – The Magic Touch

Mascara is the easiest way to make your eyes stand out. Apply a coat (or two) to your upper and lower lashes for that fluttery effect.
Tip: Before applying your mascara, always curl your lashes first with a lash curler; this will give you a more lifting look.
Step 8: Lips – The Finishing Touch
Lip Liner: Outline your lips with a liner close to your natural lip color.
Lipstick or Gloss: Go for a creamy lipstick or gloss in a shade that makes you feel confident!
Tip using a lip liner:
- Choose a shade close to your natural lip color for a seamless look.
- Overline slightly for fuller-looking lips, but keep it subtle.
- Fill in your lips with liner before applying lipstick for extra staying power.
- Blend the edges with a brush or finger to avoid harsh lines.
- Use a nude or clear liner to prevent feathering for bold lipstick shades.

Step 9: Setting Spray – Lock It All In

A few spritzes of setting spray will keep your makeup fresh and flawless all day.
