Hola Beauties! Taking care of our hair is extremely important as our skin and body. There are many ways you can get healthy hair, and there are also a lot of products on the market for it, but as always, not everything works the same for everybody. However, there are a few hair care mistakes that, no matter your hair type or length, will damage your hair if you don’t avoid them.

This post is about Hair Care Mistakes To Avoid.
1. Washing your hair with hot water
Avoid washing your hair with hot water; this habit can damage your scalp, causing inflammation, redness, dryness, and dandruff. At the same time, using hot water increases hair loss. The best water to wash your hair is lukewarm water with a temperature between 36-40 degrees Celsius.
2. Sleeping with wet hair
I know that sometimes we are tired after a long day, and going to bed with wet hair can be the easiest way to go, but you are actually damaging your hair by doing this. Sleeping with damp hair increases hair breakage through friction. Your hair is weak when wet, so moving around in your sleep will cause your hair to break.
In addition, you can grow bacteria if you sleep with your hair damp, causing acne, dandruff, rashes, and many other infections.
Try to wash your hair early in the day, or if you wash it at night, make sure you dry it before going to sleep.
3. Not cleaning your hair brushes
I am guilty of this, but now, knowing how bad it is not to wash your hair brushes, I am taking the time to clean them at least once a week. Brushes accumulate product buildup, dead cells from your scalp and hair, so basically, you are putting all that back into your hair producing bacteria that cause hair loss and dandruff.
How to clean your brushes:
- Clean your brushes once a week by removing all the hair.
- Soak them in warm water with shampoo for about 30 minutes and scrub all the buildup with a toothbrush.
- Rise and let them dry.
4. Using rubber bands
Rubber bands are the worst for your hair; I know that you can get a high and tight ponytail with them, but they cause a lot of hair breakage and hair loss when you remove them, not to mention that it’s also painful.
Try instead using satin silk scrunchies and plastic hair clips. Check my Amazon Store under accessories for my favorite options.
5. Ponytail in wet hair
Continuing with the ponytails, try not to do your ponytails with wet hair. Hair elasticity changes as it dries, so when you put it in a ponytail while wet, the hair will shrink while it is up, causing breakage.
If you have the urge to put your hair up while wet, try to use a hair clip or dry it before and then add the wet look with gel or waxy products.
6. Using hot tools on wet hair
Always use hot tools on dry hair; it’s already bad enough to use them, so when you do it in wet hair, you are causing intense hair breakage and potentially burning your hair off.
Also, don’t forget to apply a heat protector before using hot tools. A great affordable option is the Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer.
7. Do not neglect your scalp
We take care of our hair, but we forget that everything starts with the scalp. To remove dead cells, try to exfoliate your scalp at least once a week. In addition, nourish your scalp with an oil treatment once or twice a week to bring hydration.
When using oil treatments, don’t leave them for days; this can clog your pores and produce dandruff. When I use them, I apply them before I wash my hair, leave them for about 40 minutes, and then rinse.
My current favorite hair scrub is the Fable & Mane SahaScalp Wild Ginger Purifying Scrub. It’s incredible.
