Save Your Skin: Winter Skincare Tips You Need This Season

Hola Beauties! If your skin starts acting up the second temperatures drop, with tightness, flaking, dullness, or those mysterious dry patches, you’re definitely not alone. Winter is harsh, and your skin feels it before anything else. This is why having a solid lineup of winter skincare tips is non-negotiable if you want to keep your complexion soft, glowy, and irritation-free all season long. And don’t worry, you don’t need a 15-step routine or super fancy products, just a few intentional swaps and skincare strategies that actually work.

I’ve sifted through what top dermatologists, estheticians, and trusted beauty bloggers are recommending right now (plus added what I swear by personally) to bring you the ultimate winter skin survival guide.

This post is about Winter Skincare Tips.

1. Keep your skin hydrated

Hydration is essential during winter; I like to add extra Hyaluronic acid serum to my moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated. I continue to use my regular serums in the morning, such as my Vitamin C, but I like to add extra hydration.

Here are some great, affordable Hyaluronic Acid products:

At the same time, maintaining your body’s hydration from the inside is also crucial. I know that during winter, we may not feel the need to drink water, but it’s essential to consume the proper amount of water daily (at least eight glasses) to keep your skin looking healthy and glowing.

If you struggle to drink eight glasses of water, I recommend getting one of the 1-gallon water bottles on Amazon; I have one of those myself. I fill it up in the morning, and by the end of my day, I am almost done with my water.

If you are in Canada, you can find these products here:

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid at Sephora

Loreal Hyaluronic Acid on Amazon

2. Decrease the number of times you wash your face

Washing your face frequently during winter can make your skin drier, as it removes the necessary natural oils that your skin produces. This is why I recommend washing it only once a day, if possible.

For example, I have been working from home since the pandemic began, so my daily routine has changed. During winter, I only wash my face at night, and the next morning, before I start my laptop, I use micellar water and apply my morning skincare products.

If you can not skip washing your face, try using gentle hydrating cleansers on the skin.

Here are two great, affordable options :

Additionally, my favorite micellar water is Garnier’s Micellar Water for Sensitive Skin, which is incredible.

Aveeno Cleanser at Shoppers

3. Apply your Sunscreen

This is very important !! Whenever I discuss skincare, I always emphasize that no matter how effective your skincare routine is, you are not doing anything if you don’t apply sunscreen.

Sunscreen is a MUST to keep your skin healthy and youthful and protect it from UV rays. Just because the weather is cold and the sun is not in our faces doesn’t mean it’s not there!

Apply sunscreen daily, just as you would during summer and spring, and never skip it.

My current affordable favorite is the Garnier Ombrelle Sunscreen Face SPF 60 is super lightweight and does not leave a white cast.

4. Use Cream Moisturizers instead of Lotions

I always opt for Cream Moisturizers all year; however, I recommend switching to a thicker formula if you prefer to use lotions during the hot weather.

Creams create a barrier in your skin, keeping it Super-hydrated, especially those containing hyaluronic acid or ceramides.

Here are three great, affordable recommendations:

Cerave Cream

Neutrogena

5. Don’t be afraid to exfoliate

You need to exfoliate during winter! Removing all dead skin that comes with dry weather is essential. Don’t be afraid; your skin will not suffer from it. Just be gentle and limit the use to your usual routine.

I recommend using a gentle chemical exfoliator instead of scrubs. I usually exfoliate my skin twice or three times a week, but during winter, I only do it once; my skin gets extra sensitive.

Here are my favorite affordable options:

Extra Tip: Use a Humidifier While You Sleep

Indoor heating can seriously dry out the air, leaving your skin parched overnight. Running a humidifier in your bedroom is an easy way to combat that, especially while your skin is absorbing your nighttime products.

Look for one that’s quiet and easy to clean. Your skin (and sinuses) will thank you.

Okay Beauties! Your skin deserves extra love when the weather gets cold, and following these winter skincare tips will help you stay glowing, hydrated, and irritation-free all season long. It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing what works.

From gentle cleansers and exfoliation to everyday SPF, your winter skincare doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. A few smart swaps make all the difference.
