Winter can be hard on your skin, especially dry or combination skin. The cold and dry air can make our skin dryer than usual, and if we don’t take a little extra care during the cold season, this can make our skin look tired, dull, and unhealthy.
You don’t need to change your skincare regimen completely, Maybe you already have a great routine that works for you all seasons, and you don’t need to change anything, but if you are not sure, here are a few tips that are important to consider during winter to keep your skin healthy.
I have a good skincare routine, but I practice these steps during the cold weather; my skin gets very dry and tight, and these five tips work great on my combination skin.
Okay, let’s jump to them.
This post is about Winter Skincare Tips You Need in Your Routine
1. Keep your skin hydrated
Hydration is essential during winter; I like to add extra Hyaluronic acid serum to my moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated. I keep using my regular serums in the morning, like my Vitamin C, but I like to add that extra hydration.
Here are some great, affordable Hyaluronic Acid products:
At the same time, keeping your body hydrated from the inside is also crucial. I know that during winter, maybe we don’t feel the need to drink water, but it’s essential to consume the proper amount of water daily ( at least eight glasses) to keep your skin glowing.
If you struggle to drink eight glasses of water, I recommend getting one of those 1-gallon water bottles on Amazon; I have one of those. I fill it up in the morning, and by the end of my day, I am almost done with my water.

2. Decrease the number of times you wash your face
Washing your face often during winter can make your skin dryer removing the necessary natural oils that your skin produces; this is why I recommend only washing it once a day if possible.
For example, I have worked from home since the pandemic started, so my everyday routine has changed. During winter, I only wash my face at night, and the next day before I jump to my laptop, I use micellar water and apply my morning skincare products.
If you can not skip washing your face, try using gentle hydrating cleansers on the skin.

Also, my favorite micellar water is Garnier for Sensitive Skin is incredible.

3. Apply your Sunscreen
This is very important !! Whenever I talk about skincare, I always say that no matter how great your skincare routine is, you are not doing anything if you don’t apply sunscreen!
Sunscreen is a MUST to keep your skin healthy and youthful and protect it from UV rays. Just because the weather is cold and the sun is not in our faces doesn’t mean it’s not there!
So apply your sunscreen daily as you do during summer and spring; never skip it!
My current affordable favorite is the Garnier Ombrelle Sunscreen Face SPF 60 is super lightweight and does not leave a white cast.

4. Use Cream Moisturizers instead of Lotions
I always go for Cream Moisturizers all year; however, I recommend changing it for a ticker formula if you like to use lotions during the hot weather.
Creams create a barrier in your skin, keeping it Super-hydrated, especially those containing hyaluronic acid or ceramides.

5. Don’t be afraid to exfoliate
You need to exfoliate during winter! Removing all dead skin that comes with dry weather is essential. Don’t be afraid; your skin will not suffer from it; just be gentle and don’t do it as much as your usual routine.
I recommend using a gentle chemical exfoliator instead of scrubs. I usually exfoliate my skin twice or three times a week, but during winter, I only do it once; my skin gets extra sensitive.
