Hola Beauties! We can get overwhelmed with the number of skincare products available, especially if we are new to this whole thing and want to start a basic but effective skincare routine. So, in this article, we will focus on building an affordable skincare routine for beginners that works and gives excellent results.
It is essential to have a good and effective skincare routine; we can get a little bit out of control and layer many products at once, but once in a while is good to go back to the basics and have a skincare routine that will give you the results that you want.
This skincare routine is great if you are just starting or looking to upgrade your current one, and it has fantastic, affordable options.

This post is about Skincare Routine for Beginners.
1. Cleanser
Cleanser is your first step; It’s essential to clean your face to remove any impurities, dirt, and makeup from your skin before applying the rest of your products.
An important thing to consider when you choose a cleanser is to try gentle and not drying products.
I have 2 products that are my favorites at the drugstore; they are hydrating and gentle and leave your skin with a pleasantly fresh and clean sensation without drying.
Aveeno Calm and Restore Nourishing Oat Cleanser
Amazon – $9.36
CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser
Amazon – $16.99
2. Exfoliation
This step is important once or twice a week, depending on how your skin reacts. This step will clean congested pores and help with pigmentation and skin texture. AHA is great for pigmentation and skin texture, and BHA goes deeper into the pores and eliminates any excess oil (e.g. Reduces blackheads).
My favorite affordable BHA is from Paulas Choice and is the 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant; I use it 3 times a week.
Sephora – $35.00
If you can also use a face scrub between your chemical one, just don’t use both on the same day; it can irritate your skin.
My current favorite is The Body Shop Microdermabrasion Vitamin C; this product is gentle but does a great job eliminating dead skin and leaves your skin bright and soft.
The Body Shop Website – $23.00
3. Toner
Some people may not find it important to add toner to their routine; however, toners are great for balancing your skin, providing extra hydration, and plumping. Try to find toners that have no alcohol and strong fragrances.
My favorite drugstore toner, which I have been using for a while, is the Burt’s Bees Rose Micellar Water 3-1 Toner.
Amazon – $9.99
4. Serums
This step is crucial; here is when you will apply products with concentrated amounts of active ingredients to target specific skin problems.
There are many serums to choose from, so you need to validate your skin concern and go from there. For example, my concerns are skin texture, pigmentation, and fine lines/wrinkles.
I have an article with the best affordable face serums that you can check and find the product you need.
You can use serums once or twice daily. Also, remember that certain ingredients are not recommended to mix; you can see more information about how to integrate your skincare products here.
5. Moisturizer
Moisturizer is an essential step for all skin types. Try to look for products with essential ingredients that will help lock that hydration; remember, you are already adding your active ingredients with serums, so there is no need to look for them in your moisturizer.
I use products that help with my skin barrier, so ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, and Peptides are what I look for in my face moisturizer. Here are some great affordable options.
ELF Holy Hydration! Face Cream
Amazon – $12.00
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
Amazon $17.78
Neutrogena Hydro Boost
Amazon $18.98
6. SunScreen
Last is Sunscreen; you must apply it daily to protect your skin from sun damage. The recommendation is between 45 to 60 SPF.
Here is a great option:
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Ultra-Light Face Sunscreen SPF 50
Amazon $36.00
Okay Beauties, this is my Skincare Routine for Beginners with affordable recommendations for you. I know that 6 steps look a lot for a simple routine, but remember that you need to do what works for you; maybe 3 or 4 steps are more suitable.
One thing to remember is to look for your concerns and the results you are looking for; this will help to incorporate the products you need instead of having multiple products that you don’t know how to work with or layer them.
Let me know in the comments your thoughts on this routine.
Love you all ❤
