This post is about Skincare mistakes that are damaging your skin barrier.
1. Using makeup remover wipes instead of cleansers
Makeup wipes are convenient to use once in a while, but if you rely on them to clean your face daily, you are slowly damaging your skin. Wipes don’t remove all your makeup; they just break makeup particles, so you are leaving behind residues and dirt in your pores.
At the same time, wipes contain harsh ingredients that irritate your skin and strip your natural oils. Use gentle cleansers every day and if you are using makeup, try double-cleansing using a makeup remover balm and your regular gentle cleanser after.
Here are great affordable options:
2. Sleeping with your makeup on
This is one of the worst mistakes you can make; sleeping with makeup on can cause premature aging, causing dryness, irritation, forming bacteria or fungus, and reducing collagen, inflammation, and dull skin.
Over time, you can age up to 10 years if you don’t have a proper skincare routine and remove your makeup before bed.
This is something that I practice all the time; no matter how tired or late I am, I always remove my makeup, and my skin looks better than when I was younger and did not know better.
3. Over exfoliating
Exfoliation is important in your skincare routine to remove dead and have glowy and healthy skin, but it is only recommended once or twice a week.
If you are using your acids every day and notice irritation, dryness, inflammation, and sensitivity, this is a sign that you are over-exfoliating and damaging your skin barrier. In this case, you must immediately stop any product containing acids or serums like retinol and focus on gentle products and moisturizers.
Once your skin is back to normal, just exfoliate when necessary ( once a week), and do not mix exfoliators.
4. Not using moisturizer
Many people believe that moisturizer is unnecessary, which is incorrect! Moisturizer is essential to maintain the moisture in your skin barrier and protect you from the environment.
Skipping moisturizer can increase dryness, making wrinkles more visible and making your acne worse.

5. Using incorrect skincare products
This is a common mistake; there are so many products on the market, and we want to try them all, but if we use the wrong products for our skin type and in the incorrect order, this can damage the skin barrier.
Many signs indicate if a skincare product is affecting the skin :
- Your skin is peeling or extra dry
- Your skin is irritated
- Your skin is breaking out
- Your skin is oily
I have combination skin, and I noticed a few months ago that my skin was getting oily than usual. At that moment, I was trying a new moisturizer that I got in PR. The product contains incredible ingredients but was making my skin oily, so I stopped using it and returned to my usual.
This is a clear example that we need to check these signs because we can create more problems in our skin. At the same time, it’s essential to check what ingredients we are mixing in our skincare routine because this can also be a factor in skin damage.
6. Not using sunscreen
SUNSCREEN is fundamental in your skincare routine to protect your barrier from UV Rays and prevent uneven skin and premature aging.
Sun damage increases dryness, wrinkles, and brown spots. If you are outdoors, it’s crucial to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.
