Hola Beauties! For many years, I always thought that weight training was an activity exclusive to men. My workouts included maybe some machines here and there, but it was more about cardio, walking, and elliptical. At the same time, I was shy about using weights in from of people. I started reading more about the Health benefits of weight training, and I want to share my experience and how my body and mind are changing.
For many years, I associated weight training with being bulky, which is probably the most significant misunderstanding about this activity. You need an intense training routine with heavy weights, a special diet, and a different lifestyle to achieve a bulky figure.
After reading more and watching videos about weight training, I decided to change my routine, focus more on my body-mind connection, and be stronger. I am not an expert on body training; this is my experience, and I want to share it in case you are looking to start a different workout routine.

1. Help with Injuries
In high school, I played volleyball and was really good at it. During a game, I jumped, and when I landed, I heard a click on my knee, and since that day, my life has changed. I got surgery at 17 and could not play anymore since I was always in pain.
I used to go to gyms but primarily for group activities like Zumba, aerobics, and spinning classes; my focus was to be skinny and lose weight, but I never thought about being strong and confident.
When I moved to Canada, I started from scratch, gaining a lot of weight. This extra weight started to affect my knees again. I went to see a doctor, and after a few tests, they found out that my meniscus was torn because my knees were not strong and the extra weight.
One day I was unhappy; I didn’t feel healthy and was mentally sad about how I looked and felt. So I decided to change my eating habits and start a training program online.
Since I did not want to go to the gym and this was an online training, I invested in a few weights. I started with a small one, 4 and 8 pounds, but they made a change. After 3 months, I lost 20 pounds, and my knee pain reduced by 90%.
The benefit of weight training with injuries is that when you build muscle, your joints stabilize, improving your mobility and bone density. If you are having difficulties with movement or weakness or are in pain, weight training can improve these conditions.
Here are some recommendations for weights. Currently, I am using Adjustable Weights that go from 5 to 50 pounds and resistance bands, which are also excellent if you are a beginner.
2. Confidence and Empowerment
Discovering how strong your body can be is an incredible feeling. Seeing that you can climb the stairs without getting tired, carry a heavy bag, or open that tight jar is a good feeling. It’s good for your mind to feel strong and know that you have the strength to do activities that before were a struggle for you.
When you see these body changes, your confidence and empowerment immediately elevate because you can see how much stronger you are and how much you can do.
3. Physical Strength and Posture
Maintaining physical strength and good posture is essential, especially as we age. You must have a good posture and stability when training with heavy weights to prevent injury.
The more you practice, the better you get, and eventually, you will see benefits like improving your core, more muscular back, and better coordination.
Remember, the body is designed to work hard!
4. Reduce Stress
Weight training reduces stress because you need to focus your mind on your body to ensure you don’t get injured. I find myself leaving everything behind when I concentrate all my energy on doing my workout properly instead of thinking of my work and other problems that I might have.
Put all your thoughts on your primary goal, your workout, and how stronger and more confident you feel. Seeing the progress from lifting 5 pounds to 15 is incredible, and your adrenaline and happiness will increase because you are proud of where you have come.
