Feet is an important part of our body that we sometimes neglect and forget. Our feet’ health is as important as any other part; they support our body, and if we don’t take care of them, we can have serious problems that can be painful and uncomfortable. Here are 8 tips for healthy feet that will change your feet and toenails health.

1. Keep your feet clean

This is essential; you must wash your feet daily with soap and water. When you shower, take the time to clean your feet and go between your toes; if you don’t clean your feet properly, this can create bacteria that transform into fungus. Once you are done, make sure you dry your feet properly.

2. Exfoliate your feet

You need to exfoliate your feet like you do your face and body. It’s vital to remove dead skin that causes callouses and cracks. Try to exfoliate once or twice a week, depending on your needs. You can use a foot file or stone, or if you want better results, add a body exfoliant that contains BHA or AHA to your routine.

3. Use products to eliminate odors and bacteria

If you have stinky feet, it’s important to use products that eliminate the bacteria causing the odor. One way is to use products that contain benzoyl peroxide instead of soap. This ingredient kills the bacteria on your feet that are causing unpleasant smells. But since benzoyl peroxide is strong, try to see how much you can use at once or how often because it can dry your skin. Find the balance that works best for your feet.

4. Cut your nails straight

Keep your toenails straight and short. Do not cut them on the side to create an oval shape, as this can increase the chances of ingrowing nails, which can be really painful.

5. Choose the correct shoe size

Our feet and entire body need the correct shoe size when buying shoes. Remember, if we don’t have comfortable shoes that fit us right, this can increase the chances of foot pain, bunions, toenail damage, and deformations, which can cause even more problems like back pain, headaches, and more.

6. Do not walk barefoot

One of the causes of dry and cracked feet, especially in your heels, is constantly walking barefoot or in flip-flops. I know it is tempting when you are home not to wear shoes or use flip-flops all day, but I’m telling you from experience that this needs to change.

My heels were always cracked, and even though some creams helped, my feet always felt dry and callous. So I decided to change the feet flops for lovely slippers, and within a month, I saw a massive difference in my feet. They don’t look as dry anymore, the callousness has decreased, and they look healthier.

But walking barefoot or with fleet flops can also cause more dramatic problems, as you do not have the support your foot needs.

7. Take care of your toenails

You might have a fungus infection with yellow, white, black, crack, or tick-toe nails. If the condition is severe, fungus infections are tough to treat, especially in your toenails. Eliminating the disease can take up to years; in some cases, the fungus returns.

You can prevent fungus by following the following steps:

  • Keep your nails clean and dry.
  • Try to change your socks during the day.
  • Use anti-fungal products in your shoes.
  • Sterilize your tools after a pedicure.
  • Maintain your nails trimmed and short.

If you have a fungus infection, you can get products from your local pharmacy to treat it, but removing it can take a long time. You can also get prescribed antibiotics to kill the bacteria, and this can take 3 months.

Some people swear by remedies, such as Original Listerine and Vicks Vapor Rub, to eliminate fungus. Friends told me that Vicks Vapor Rub helped restore the natural toenail color, and Listerine kills bacteria.

8. Keep your feet moisturized
