This year we didn’t have as many lunches as before; however, companies still managed to bring us new products for us to try. If you decide to start your makeup journey on a budget, here is a guide to your Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit 2020.

Drugstore Makeup Base
Primer
If you are starting with makeup, a primer might be something you don’t need, but it’s important to remember that the skin needs to be prepared for your makeup to last. You can apply moisturizer, which can be enough; however, depending on your skin type or problems, you can use a primer to reduce them.
I have three primers to recommend in this Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit 2020 guide that is great.
Catrice Prime and Fine Keep Me Matt( 10 CAD): I love this primer, I use it in my T_ZONE, where I get most of the oil and where my makeup wears out, so if you have combination or oily skin, this product is perfect for you.
Elf Poreless Putty Primer (10 CAD): This primer is excellent for those who, like me, have enlarged pores and want to reduce their look for a flawless base look.
Hard and Candy Hydrating Primer ( 8 CAD): This primer is excellent for dry skin; now that the weather is getting colder, my dryness starts showing up in my problem areas like my jaw. After application, the skin feels hydrated, but also the formula is a little tacky, which helps the makeup lock into your skin.
Foundation
I have three fantastic products depending on the finish you are looking for and the type of coverage you want.
Colourpop Pretty Fresh Foundation (21 CAD): I consider this foundation more of a BB Cream, perfect for that makeup, no makeup days. The coverage is medium, and the finish is very natural and glowy. This foundation has Hyaluronic Acid, which provides great hydration to the skin without looking oily, great product.
Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation (14 CAD): This is probably my favorite foundation of 2020. The coverage is medium, but you can build up. This is a matte foundation; however, the finish is very natural and flawless; the skin looks healthy and beautiful.
Loreal Infallible 24 Fresh Wear (17 CAD): This product is from 2019; however, I used it a lot in 2020. This is a medium buildable to full coverage foundation with a gorgeous matte finish that lasts all day without looking cakey. This foundation is perfect for those glam days.
Concealer
Concealer is not something that you need if you are new to makeup. However, concealer can be your best friend if you have discoloration or dark circles.
Simultaneously, for those days when you don’t want to use foundation, you can use a concealer that matches your skin tone to cover those areas that need a little bit of work. Another tip, you can use concealer as a lid primer for your eyeshadows.
Here are my recommendations, depending on how much coverage you might need.
Elf 16Hr Camo Concealer (7 CAD): This concealer is excellent for those who need extra coverage under the eye area. The formula is thick but easy to blend; a little bit goes a long way. This concealer stays in place all day. If you have dry skin, ensure you moisturize first; otherwise, you might get creases since the formula, as I mentioned before, is thick.
Revlon Photoready Candid Concealer ( 11 CAD): This is my favorite concealer of 2020; I have been using it, not stopping. The formula is very lightweight but pigmented and blends beautifully. This is medium coverage, but it can build up. The finish is very natural and doesn’t look cakey or creased. I also love this concealer to cover blemishes.
Drusgore Eye Makeup
Brows
I didn’t try many eyebrows products in 2020, so in this case, I will share the products that are my Holy Grail. If you are starting with makeup, you don’t need many products. However, I want to give you the options depending on your preferences.
These are my Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit 2020 brow products.
Elf Cosmetics Lock on Liner and Brow Cream (8 CAD): This brow cream is fantastic; the pigmentation is intense, creamy, and easy to blend; most important, it lasts all day.
Loreal Brow Stylist Definer (11.99 CAD): This pencil is great; it’s retractable, has a spoolie, is creamy, really easy to define your eyebrows, and creates those strokes for a more natural look.
Maybelline BrowFast Sculpt (11.99 CAD): This brow gel is one of the best at the drugstore; the product locks your eyebrows in place all day and doesn’t flake.
Eye Shadows
This category is probably the hardest one to choose from because the drugstore has so many incredible products right now, but here are my three recommendations.
Elf Cosmetics The New Classics Eyeshadows Palette ( 16 CAD): This neutral tones palette is gorgeous and perfect for getting into makeup. This palette contains 18 shades, eight mattes, and nine shimmers; you can create so many eyes looks with it. The shadows are creamy, and easy to blend, and the pigmentation is excellent. Elf has other stories for the same size palette and formulation if you want something warm or colorful.
Elf BiteSizes Eyeshados (4 CAD): Okay, this is probably one of the best products of 2020. These small eyeshadow palettes are only 4 CAD, so if you want, you can get as many of them as you wish based on your preferences. Elf has so far eight different stories to choose from; they are perfect for traveling. The palettes have four shades, two mattes, and two shimmers, but some have only one shimmer. The formula es outstanding, creamy, super pigmented, blend like a dream and lasts all day. What else can you ask for!
Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow 10 Pan Palette ( 7 CAD): This product is not from 2020; however, Wet n Wild is still making new stories for these pretty eyeshadow palettes. The shadows are super affordable; the formula in the mattes is great, easy to work with, and pigmented; the shimmers are not blinding but still beautiful. Wet n Wild has around nine different stories to choose from, but my absolute favorites are Rose in the Air, Comfort Zone, and Not a Basic Peach.
Mascara
I don’t use falsies, so I am always looking for great mascara, and the drugstore has so many great products.
Maybelline The Falsies Lash Lift (10 CAD): This mascara provides excellent length; the brush gives the lashes a great lift without clumping.
Essence Volume Stylist Curl and Hold ( 6 CAD): This mascara is fantastic for the price. This product has fibers that provide incredible volume and length. You can build it up for a more dramatic look that lasts all day without smudging.
Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise ( 10 CAD): This is a Holy Grail product! This mascara provides de most fantastic volume and length giving a dramatic look to the lashes. It doesn’t flake or smudge and lasts all day. My only complaint, this product dries out really fast, so this might be something to consider; however, the results are incredible.
Drugstore Face Makeup
Setting Powder
Setting powder is an essential step to extend your makeup longevity. These are the powders that I loved in 2020.
Revlon Photoready Candid Anti-Pollution Setting Powder (12 CAD): This is my favorite setting powder of 2020. This product provides a beautiful matte finish without looking cakey. You can use this powder to set up your concealer and foundation. The formula is super lightweight, which is why you can build up for a flawless finish that lasts all day.
Elf Cosmetics Halo Glow Setting Powder ( 9 CAD): This powder is very similar in formula to the Revlon Candid; the finish is a natural glow instead of matte. I use this product to add that extra touch of luminosity to the skin.
Blush
Blushes are my favorite makeup product; I have three super affordable recommendations.
Milani Baked Blush (14 CAD): This blush is my Holy Grail, I have been using it for years, and I would continue using it because it is fantastic. The formula is buttery, pigmented, and blends easily. This blush has a little bit of shimmer, providing a beautiful glow.
Elf Cosmetics Primer Infused Blush (8 CAD): This blush is new but has become one of my favorites; this product is buttery and blends beautifully, the pigmentation is excellent, a little bit goes a long way, and lasts all day. This product comes in matte and shimmer shades so that you can choose based on your preferences; both are gorgeous.
Elf Cosmetics Bite-Size Face Duo ( 4 CAD): This product is relatively new. This small face palette is fantastic; it comes with a blush and a highlighter that matches. The blush’s pigmentation is excellent; the highlighter is not super intense but provides a beautiful glow. At the moment, Elf has seven shades to choose from. Some of the blushes are matte, and some have a bit of shimmer.
Bronzer
There are so many amazing affordable bronzers; here are my recommendations.
Milani Silky Matte Bronzer Powder (14.99 CAD): This bronzer is one of my Holy Grail; the formula is super creamy and silky, blends like a dream, doesn’t look patchy, and lasts all day. A little bit goes a long way; also, the packaging is super cute.
Essence Sun Club Matt Bronzing Palette (12.99): This palette is fantastic for the price. It comes in four shades that are perfect for any skin tone. The formula is creamy and easy to apply; I love this palette; definitely one of the best products of 2020.
Highlighter
This is another of those makeup products that I can not get enough 🙈of; I have some recommendations based on the intensity you are looking for. Here are my 2 Highlighters for this Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit 2020.
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ( 5 CAD): This product is one of my favorites at the drugstore; this is not a super intense highlighter. The finish is a natural glow that is very flattering. The formula is lightweight and not powdery.
Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter ( 12.99 CAD): This highlighter is a bit more pricey than the essence, but the pigmentation is outstanding. In my opinion, one of the best highlighters on the market, the formula is super buttery, and the finish is a blinding glow that lasts all day.
Setting Spray
Depending on the finish you are looking for, I have two recommendations for my go-to products.
Milani Make it Last Setting Spray (15 CAD): This spray provides a matte finish and locks your makeup in place all day. I wasn’t a huge fan of the applicator in the beginning, but the product grew on me, and it’s now one of my favorites.
NYX Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray ( 10 CAD): I love this product; it provides de most beautiful glow to your skin and gives longevity to your makeup.
Drugstore Lip Makeup
There are so many lip products at the drugstore, so for that reason, I want to narrow to one recommendation for each category ( Lip Liner, Lipstick, and Lip Gloss). These are my current go-to lip products.
Essence Stay 8h Waterproof LipLiner ( 4 CAD): This is a new discovery, and I am so in love with this product. This is a retractable pencil, so you don’t need to worry about a sharper. The formula is super creamy, making the application so easy and smooth and, best of all, super long-lasting. For the price, this product is stunning.
Maybelline Super Stay Ink Crayon ( 10 CAD): The formula in these lipsticks is excellent; they last all day but without drying your lips, they are creamy, pigmented, and they smell like vanilla. The packing is super convenient, making the application smooth.
Maybelline Lifter Gloss ( 8 CAD): This product is relatively new but has become a Holy Grail. These lip glosses have Hyaluronic acid providing great hydration to the lips. The formula is silky, lighter, and not sticky, and they have almost the same scent as the Super Stay Ink Crayon, like vanilla. A must-have product!
